A strategy most recommended for improving memory is the Look, Snap, Connect technique which is when you consciously commit something to memory by "taking a picture" of it with your brain and making a connection to existing knowledge so that it is in an intentional storage space.
Look: Pay attention, use all of your senses to be cognizant of what you are trying to remember. Be an active observer and do your best to concentrate.
Snap: Take a picture of what you're looking at, try to freeze it in time. If there is no picture to "snap", make a picture in your brain of what it is you are trying to remember (ie: a grocery list, imagine an image of the items).
Connect: Consciously connect this information to what is already committed to memory. When storing information in the brain the more logically connected the information is, the easier it is to recall and retrieve it.
Other strategies that improve memory are: Test and Recall: Make a list of items and try to remember them. In an hour, test yourself and see how many you were able to remember.
Mental Math: computing math equations without a pen and paper is a great way to exercise your memory muscles!
Word Play: visualize the spelling of a word and then try to find another word that begins with the same letter. To make it more challenging try to find words that begin with and end with the same two letters.
Taste Bud Challenge: when eating, try to identify the different tastes and ingredients you are tasting.
Puzzles: puzzles and riddles are wonderful for building memory skills.
There are many daily activities that are wonderful for memory, they include: learning a language, playing an instrument, and learning a new sport.
