Sticky-notes, so versatile. We will go back to them again and again but here are just a few of so many ways that we can use these ingenious little pieces of paper for spelling practice.
Write a word out, each sticky-note for one letter. If you are writing a four letter word, you will use four sticky notes. Mix up the letters and have your child rearrange the sticky-notes and have them spell the word correctly.
This can be changed by taking out one of the letters and putting a blank sticky-note in its place. Have your child identify the missing letter. Make it a challenge by mixing the letters and the blank sticky-note so that your child has to rearrange and complete the word.
Start with a small word (three or four letters) and together try adding new letters to that word to build a new word. This will help your child with cemented sounds and with the strategy of identifying a word within a word when decoding new words. If your child learns to look for words within new words when reading they will start reading faster and with improved fluency.
Here's an example, if you start with the word pin and then you add an s you will have spin. You can continue from there and add r and g to get spring, or r and t to get sprint, or e for spine, etc.
Ideal for ages 5-7
